The first written records of Naklo and its surrounding villages appear in the 12th century, marking the establishment of several rural settlements.
Naklo was pillaged during Ottoman raids, a period that influenced the construction of fortified churches in the region.
The region came under French administration as part of the Illyrian Provinces during the Napoleonic Wars, bringing reforms to local governance.
Peasant uprisings in the area reflected widespread social change and the struggle for greater rights under the Habsburg Monarchy.
Naklo became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia) after World War I, leading to significant political realignment.
Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia, and Naklo became part of the newly formed Republic of Slovenia.
