What to visit?
History
First settlements are documented in the 13th century, when the area became part of various feudal estates.
The region was affected by the great Slovene peasant revolt, reflecting the turbulent agricultural history of Styria.
Abolition of feudalism brought significant changes to land ownership and agricultural practices in Cerkvenjak.
With the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Cerkvenjak became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes (later Yugoslavia).
During World War II, the area was occupied by Nazi Germany, and local resistance movements were active in the region.
Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia, and Cerkvenjak became part of the new republic.
Cerkvenjak was established as its own municipality, fostering local governance and community initiatives.
