History
Ancient Illyrian and Celtic tribes inhabit the Soča Valley, leaving behind archaeological traces near Tolmin.
The Romans establish trade and military routes through the region, integrating Tolmin into the Roman province of Noricum.
Tolmin is first mentioned in medieval records, developing as a small market town under the Patriarchate of Aquileia.
The Tolmin Peasant Uprising, a major rebellion against feudal oppression, erupts and is later suppressed by Habsburg authorities.
The region becomes a focal point during World War I, with fierce battles fought in the nearby Soča Front (Isonzo Front).
Tolmin is liberated from Axis forces and becomes part of Yugoslavia after World War II.
