What to visit?
History
Kyegegwa area was historically part of the Bunyoro Kingdom, whose influence shaped the region’s culture and land use.
During British colonial rule, the area was administered under the larger Tooro Kingdom and later the Kyenjojo District.
The end of the Ugandan civil war brought relative stability to the region, encouraging agricultural growth and resettlement.
Kyegegwa District was officially established, carved out of Kyenjojo District to improve local governance and development.
Katonga Wildlife Reserve, partially lying in Kyegegwa, received increased conservation attention, attracting eco-tourists and researchers.
