What to visit?
History
The region was inhabited by nomadic tribes along the Yellow River during the Western Zhou dynasty.
The Tangut people established the Western Xia Dynasty (1038–1227), with its capital near present-day Yinchuan.
Mongol forces led by Genghis Khan conquered the Western Xia, ending the dynasty and influencing the region’s development.
Ningxia became part of the Ming Dynasty, with expanded irrigation and agriculture along the Yellow River.
