Västerbottens län
Västerbottens Museum, located in the Gammlia area of Umeå, Sweden, is the regional museum responsible for preserving and presenting the cultural history of Västerbotten County. The museum encompasses the Gammlia open-air museum, which features historical buildings relocated from across the county, including an 18th-century farmhouse, Helena Elisabeth Church, a manor house, a windmill, a school, a blacksmith shop, and Sami camps. It offers visitors immersive experiences such as traditional crafts, butter churning, and bread baking during the summer months. The museum also includes specialized exhibitions like the ski exhibition-home to the world's oldest ski-and the Fishing and Maritime exhibition. Västerbottens Museum serves as an active cultural institution, producing a quarterly journal and engaging in archaeological research throughout the county. The main museum building, designed by architect Bengt Romare, was constructed in 1943 and has undergone several expansions, allowing for a growing collection and visitor facilities. The museum's logo is inspired by a thousand-year-old Sami bronze link found near the Vindel River, symbolizing the region's rich indigenous heritage. The outdoor open-air museum area is accessible year-round, with buildings open to the public during summer and at special events such as the Christmas market.

Storia
The Västerbottens Museum originated from a decision in 1886 by the Västerbotten County Antiquarian Society to establish a museum in Umeå for preserving antiquities.
Initially housed in the Ullbergska property, the collection suffered losses in the great UmeĂĄ city fire of 1888.
The museum relocated several times due to growing collections, finally settling in the Gammlia area with a dedicated building completed in 1939.
Between 1921 and 1990, historic buildings from across Västerbotten County were moved to Gammlia to recreate traditional farms and settlements.
The ski museum, originally in Stockholm in 1928, moved to Umeå in 1963 and became part of Västerbottens Museum, notable for housing the world's oldest ski.
The main museum building was designed by Bengt Romare and constructed in 1943, with significant expansions including space formerly occupied by the contemporary art museum Bildmuseet until 2012.
