Estoi Palace
Faro
Estoi Palace, located near the town of Estói in Faro, Algarve, is a prominent historic monument celebrated for its rich architectural and decorative diversity. The palace complex includes a large U-shaped manor house and extensive gardens laid out on three levels. Architecturally, the palace blends Italian Baroque with Rococo, Neoclassical, and Romantic elements, creating a visually striking yet sometimes eclectic ensemble. Its interior features richly decorated rooms inspired by 18th-century French styles, highlighted by a Louis XV-style chapel with a tiled ceiling and painted roof. The gardens are adorned with exotic trees, sculptures including the Three Graces from Pisa, and intricate tile panels by José Maria Pereira Junior. Originating from an 18th-century estate founded by Marshal Francisco de Pereira Coutinho, the palace's construction began in the mid-19th century but was only completed after several ownership changes and interruptions, culminating in a grand inauguration in 1909. Today, part of the palace operates as a guesthouse, and the site is recognized as one of Algarve's main monuments, combining cultural heritage with natural beauty.

Storia
Estoi Palace originated as an 18th-century estate founded by Marshal Francisco de Pereira Coutinho, inspired by the National Palace of Queluz.
Construction of the current palace began in the mid-19th century under Fernando de Carvalhal e Vasconcelos but was interrupted by his death and those of his brothers.
The property fell into abandonment until José Francisco da Silva purchased it in the 1890s and completed the work, inaugurating the palace in 1909.
The palace changed hands several times, leading to deterioration until it was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1977.
Restoration efforts began in the late 1980s after acquisition by the municipality of Faro, with extensive conservation through the 1990s and conversion into a guesthouse completed in 2009.
