After the zoo closed, the idea to create an amusement park was conceived by Tor Erling Pettersen and Terje Buer, who partnered with landowner Fred Hallager Juul.
The park's development was approved in 1987, and after 18 months of construction, TusenFryd opened in June 1988.
Since then, it has steadily expanded its attractions and visitor numbers, becoming Norway's largest amusement park.
