Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein is the national art museum of the Principality of Liechtenstein, located in Vaduz. Established on the foundation of the State Art Collection gifted in 1967, it houses a significant collection of international modern and contemporary art, focusing on 20th and 21st-century sculptures and installations. The museum building, completed in 2000 by Swiss architects Meinrad Morger, Heinrich Degelo, and Christian Kerez, is notable for its minimalist 'black box' design featuring tinted concrete and black basalt stone with embedded river pebbles. Its six exhibition rooms are arranged around two staircases, allowing diagonal views throughout the space. In 2015, the adjacent Hilti Art Foundation building was added, designed as a cube to complement the museum and sharing the same entrance, symbolizing their close collaboration. The collection avoids geographic or stylistic limitations, embracing diverse movements such as abstract, minimal, conceptual art, Arte Povera, symbolism, futurism, and surrealism. The museum has hosted exhibitions by renowned artists including Andy Warhol, Paul Klee, Joseph Beuys, and Kazimir Malevich. It plays a vital role in Liechtenstein's cultural identity and offers dynamic programming including guided tours, workshops, and family activities.
