History

1998

The concept of Terra Botanica was first proposed in 1998 by the Maine-et-Loire general council as a new tourist attraction.

2000

After considering several sites, the former Angers-Avrillé airfield was chosen in 2000.

2004

Initial plans focused on an amusement park with rides, but by 2004 the vision shifted to a botanical and educational theme emphasizing plant biodiversity and sustainable development.

2008

Construction began in 2008, and the park officially opened in April 2010, designed by landscape architect Thierry Huau and architect Jean de Gastines.
