History
The Santos Beachfront garden was conceived in 1914 by engineer Saturnino de Brito as part of urban development plans to beautify the city's coastline.
Initial garden areas appeared near hotels in the 1920s, and by 1922, the beachfront land was officially ceded to the municipality after advocacy led by poet Vicente de Carvalho and then-mayor Joaquim Montenegro.
The first formal garden sections were constructed in the 1930s, adopting a classical straight-lined design, with significant expansions completed by 1939.
The garden's layout was modified in the 1960s to a curvilinear style by engineer Armando Martins Clemente, which remains today.
