Koprinka Reservoir is a large man-made lake located in the Rose Valley of central Bulgaria, near the city of Kazanlak. Constructed between 1944 and 1956 on the Tundzha River, it stretches approximately 7 kilometers long and covers an area of 11.2 square kilometers with depths ranging from 44 to 78 meters. The reservoir's rugged shores feature numerous branches and bays, creating a scenic and varied landscape. A remarkable historical discovery during its construction was the ancient Thracian city of Seuthopolis, the capital of the Odrysian kingdom, now submerged beneath the waters. The city’s artifacts are preserved in the Regional Museum of History in Kazanlak. There are ambitious plans proposed by architect Zheko Tilev to reconstruct and preserve Seuthopolis by building a dam wall around the ruins, allowing visitors to explore the site by boat and enjoy amenities such as hanging gardens, restaurants, and panoramic views. Koprinka also serves as a popular recreational spot offering excellent conditions for water sports and fishing, with a rich presence of freshwater fish species. Additionally, it is an important winter habitat for many bird species, making it attractive for nature lovers and bird watchers alike.
