Parque de la Independencia was inaugurated on January 1, 1902, making it the first major park in Rosario.
Its origin traces back to four public squares named Independencia, located at the intersection of two large boulevards.
In 1900, the provincial government authorized the expropriation of land to create the park, with plans initially attributed to landscape architect Carlos Thays, although this attribution lacks full historical documentation.
Construction included internal avenues, an artificial lake, and an artificial hill known as La Montañita.
