History
The area now known as the United Arab Emirates has been inhabited for thousands of years, with evidence of human settlement dating back to the Neolithic period. Archaeological finds suggest that the region was involved in trade with Mesopotamia and the Indus Valley.
The United Arab Emirates was formed on December 2, 1971, when six emirates—Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al-Quwain, and Fujairah—joined together. Ras Al Khaimah joined the federation on February 10, 1972, completing the union of the seven emirates.
