Historie
The Koskenkorva distillery complex was established in 1938 by Oy Alkoholiliike Ab following the end of prohibition in Finland.
Initially built in 1940 but commencing production after World War II in 1945, the factory originally used potatoes for spirit production before switching to barley.
Architect Erkki Huttunen designed the original redbrick distillery buildings in functionalist style.
The factory expanded in the 1960s and 1970s, including the addition of a new distillery and silo tower designed by Einari Teräsvirta.
The surrounding village of Koskenkorva grew around the factory, benefiting from its strategic location near the Suupohja railway and Kyrönjoki River.
The site is recognized as a nationally significant cultural environment by the Finnish Heritage Agency.
