Kyaikthanlan Pagoda is a prominent Buddhist pagoda located in Mawlamyine, Mon State, Myanmar. Standing at 150 feet (46 meters), it is the tallest pagoda in the city, originally built in 875 AD during the reign of Mon King Mutpi Raja. Over the centuries, it was elevated from its initial 56 feet height by successive rulers, including Wareru, the founder of the Hanthawaddy kingdom. The pagoda has undergone several restorations, notably in 1764 and again in 1831 when Sitke Maung Htaw Lay led a public fundraising effort to preserve its significance. Positioned atop a hill range, it offers commanding views of Mawlamyine city, nearby islands, the Gulf of Martaban, surrounding rivers, and the limestone mountains of Kayin State to the east. The site is culturally significant, as it is believed that Rudyard Kipling penned a line from his poem "Mandalay" here, adding literary importance to its religious and historical value. The pagoda's architecture and location make it a unique spiritual and scenic landmark in the region.
