West Coast Park is a large regional park located at the southwestern corner of West Coast, Singapore, covering approximately 50 hectares of reclaimed land. Divided into three distinct areas, the park features a variety of facilities including a large playground, barbeque pits, a marsh garden, a campsite, and a dog run. It is known as the "Play Centre in the West," catering to families and outdoor enthusiasts. The park's Grand Lawn, one of Singapore's largest, offers expansive open space ideal for picnics, frisbee, kite flying, and carnivals, complemented by excellent sea views. The Adventure Play Area provides engaging activities for children, while the marsh garden supports biodiversity with native and migratory bird species. Over the years, the park has undergone several upgrades, including a significant redevelopment completed in the early 2000s that enhanced its maritime theme with features like a lighthouse-inspired observation tower and a maritime walk. Despite initial challenges in popularity, the park has become a favored destination for relaxation and recreation in the western region of Singapore.

Storia

1977

West Coast Park was first planned in the mid-1970s and construction began in 1977 on reclaimed land in Pasir Panjang.

Initially envisioned as a smaller counterpart to East Coast Park, it was developed in phases, with early features including a freshwater lake, playground, and picnic areas.

The park underwent upgrades in the 1980s to add jogging and cycling facilities, a pond, and flower beds.

In the 1990s, parts of the park were relocated to accommodate the Pasir Panjang Terminal development.

1998

A major redevelopment from 1998 to 2000 introduced a maritime theme with new playgrounds, barbeque pits, a marsh garden, and an observation tower.

Further enhancements continued into the early 2000s, solidifying its role as a key recreational space in Singapore's west.
