History
Gröna Lund was established in 1883 by German immigrant Jacob Schultheis, making it Sweden's oldest amusement park.
The site had been used for entertainment since the early 18th century, including taverns and pleasure gardens referenced in the works of Carl Michael Bellman.
After Schultheis's death in 1914, his family continued management and modernized the park with architect Arvid Klosterborg.
The park faced competition from a nearby travelling fair called Nöjesfältet in the 1920s.
Ownership changed in 2006 to Parks & Resorts Scandinavia AB, which also manages other Swedish attractions.
A tragic accident in 2023 involving the Jetline roller coaster led to its permanent closure and a significant fine for the park.
