Storia
Pyynikki has been a popular natural park since the 1830s, with the first café opening in 1868.
The initial observation tower, designed by Georg Schreck, was built in 1888 but damaged during the 1918 Battle of Tampere.
Reconstruction began in 1925, culminating in the current tower's opening in 1929 to celebrate Tampere’s 150th anniversary.
The opening was delayed due to the tragic sinking of the steamship Kuru.
In the late 1960s and 1970s, the newer Näsinneula tower took over as the main tourist attraction for foreign visitors, leaving Pyynikki as a cherished local landmark.
