Designed by the collaborative efforts of Superflex, Bjarke Ingels Group, and the German landscape architects Topotek1, the park spans approximately 30,000 square meters along a 750-meter stretch. It is divided into three distinct areas: the Red Square, the Black Market, and the Green Park, each offering unique experiences ranging from vibrant urban life with music and sports to tranquil green spaces for picnics and dog walking. The park is renowned for its celebration of Nørrebro's ethnic diversity, featuring over 100 objects imported or inspired by more than 50 countries, including swings from Iraq, benches from Brazil, a fountain from Morocco, and neon signs from around the world. This eclectic mix creates a global exhibition atmosphere that fosters community interaction and cultural exchange. Superkilen has received multiple prestigious awards, such as the AIA Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, recognizing its innovative approach to urban space and social inclusion. Despite some public criticism regarding noise and maintenance, the park remains a lively cultural hub hosting events like the Distortion festival and is a popular spot for families, skateboarders, and visitors seeking a unique city experience.
