Storia

1143

Valangin Castle was first mentioned in 1143 in a donation document to the Premonstratensian Abbey of Fontaine-André.

In the early 13th century, the castle and its lordship passed to the Counts of Aarberg-Valangin, who developed the region by founding settlements and churches to establish an independent domain over the Val de Ruz.

1296

The castle witnessed conflicts over feudal allegiances, notably with the House of Neuchâtel and neighboring powers, including a decisive battle in 1296.

Over the centuries, the castle remained a seat of regional power until the Aarberg-Valangin line ended in the early 16th century.

1848

Later, the region became part of the Principality of Neuchâtel, linked to Prussia and briefly under Napoleonic rule before becoming a Swiss canton in 1848.
