Parque de Bombas
Puerto Rico
Parque de Bombas is a historic building located in Ponce, Puerto Rico, originally constructed in 1882 as the main pavilion for an exhibition trade fair. Designed by Lt. Colonel Máximo de Meana y Guridi, a Spanish Army officer and architect, it became the island's first fire station in 1883. The building is a two-story wooden structure featuring Moorish and Gothic Revival architectural influences, with distinctive red and black colors representing the city of Ponce. Its central location at Plaza Las Delicias, directly behind Ponce Cathedral, makes it an iconic landmark. The building served as a fire station until 1990 when it was converted into a museum. It also briefly functioned as the mayor's office after the 1918 earthquake. Parque de Bombas is a symbol of the bravery and dedication of Ponce's firefighters and plays a vital role in the city's cultural heritage, including hosting concerts by the Ponce Municipal Band. The museum preserves the history of firefighting in Puerto Rico and the building's unique architectural features.
