The Ashgabat Olympic Complex, also known as the Saparmurat Turkmenbashy Olympic Stadium, is a modern multi-purpose stadium located in the Kopetdag District of Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. Originally built in 2003 with a capacity of 30,000, it was reconstructed and expanded to seat 45,000 spectators, reopening in 2017. The stadium is renowned for its striking exterior featuring a giant sculpture of the Akhal-Teke horse, symbolizing Turkmenistan's equestrian heritage; this sculpture is recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest horse figure worldwide. Designed by British firms AFL Architects and Arup and constructed by Turkish company Polimeks, the stadium boasts fully roofed two-tiered stands in white tones. It serves as the home ground for the Turkmen national football team and hosts various sports and cultural events, including the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and the 2018 World Weightlifting Championships. The stadium's grass field is protected with a polyethylene cover during off-seasons to maintain its quality. Its iconic status is reflected by its depiction on the 100 Turkmen manat banknote and commemorative coins.
