The mountain ranges from 250 to 1,810 meters in elevation and extends from east of Niška Banja to southwest of Babušnica in the Lužnica valley. It is distinctly bounded by the Nišava River to the northwest and north, Koritnička River to the east, and Lužnica River to the southeast and south. The massif is characterized by striking karst relief features and is a repository of sedimentary layers rich in fossil flora. Suva Planina hosts a unique phytocoenosis and forest ecosystem, featuring 1,261 plant species including numerous endemic species, lichens, and bird species. Due to its ecological and geological significance, it has been declared a nature reserve and a geonatural heritage site under Serbian national law. Its slopes fall within the municipalities of Niška Banja, Gadžin Han, Bela Palanka, Babušnica, and Vlasotince.
