Museum of Valjevo Region
Kolubarski okrug
Founded in 1951, the Museum of Valjevo Region is located in the heart of Valjevo city, on the banks of the Kolubara River. It holds more than 50,000 artifacts divided into archaeological, historical, ethnographic, and artistic collections. The museum serves the Valjevo city and five surrounding municipalities in the Kolubara district, protecting both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Its central building, originally constructed in 1870 as a school and later a hospital during WWI, now hosts a modern permanent exhibition titled "Valjevo – The Third Dimension of the Past, a View from the Future," opened in 2007. This exhibition spans nine thematic halls presenting historical processes from prehistory to the mid-20th century, enhanced by ambient reconstructions and multimedia technology. Additionally, the museum complex includes the Muselim's Konak, Nenadović Tower, the Historical Memorial Complex in Brankovina, and a local museum branch in Osečina. The museum is recognized as one of Serbia's most modern and visited institutions, attracting over 100,000 visitors annually and earning multiple national and international awards for excellence and contribution to cultural tourism. Besides exhibitions, the museum hosts thematic shows, film screenings, concerts, and lectures in its gallery spaces.

Histoire
The Museum of Valjevo Region was established in 1951, initially housed in the Muselim's Konak building with a modest exhibition space.
In 1955, it expanded by acquiring an adjacent building to form the Museum of People's Revolution branch.
In 1969, the museum moved to a larger building constructed in 1870, which had served as a gymnasium and hospital during World War I.
Over time, the original building deteriorated, leading to the closure of the main exhibition in 1996.
Extensive renovations began in 2001, culminating in the 2007 opening of a new permanent exhibition that integrated modern museographic techniques and multimedia technology.
The museum's branches, including the Historical Memorial Complex in Brankovina, have also been developed since the 1980s.
