Histoire
The earliest record of Vatra Dornei dates back to 1592.

The city was part of Câmpulung County between 1925 and 1950, after which it became part of Suceava County.
Vatra Dornei was declared a city in 2000, making it the newest and smallest city in Suceava County today.
