Histoire
Khalifa International Stadium was inaugurated in 1976 to host the 4th Arabian Gulf Cup, marking its importance in regional sports early on.
In 1992, it hosted the 11th Arabian Gulf Cup where Qatar won for the first time.
Ahead of the 2006 Asian Games, the stadium underwent major renovations, including a new grandstand and roof, integrating it into the Aspire Zone.
Following Qatar's successful bid for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the stadium was extensively upgraded in 2017 with increased capacity and modern facilities, becoming the first stadium to receive a four-star rating from FIFA's Global Sustainability Assessment System in the Middle East and North Africa.
