History
Bob's Peak, part of the Ben Lomond range, was historically a popular but difficult-to-access vantage point above Queenstown.
In 1961, Ian Hamilton constructed a steep road to bring tourists closer to the views.
Following his death, Jon Dumble and partners built a chalet in 1964 and secured permission in 1965 to build the gondola, which officially opened in November 1967.
Since then, the attraction has expanded to include luge tracks introduced in 1998 and mountain biking facilities.
Recent redevelopment projects starting in 2019 have modernized the gondola system and visitor facilities.
The company has also managed environmental challenges, including repair commitments following a 2023 landslip during southern New Zealand floods.
