Histoire
Museum de Fundatie was founded in 1958 by art collector Dirk Hannema, initially located at Kasteel het Nijenhuis, his residence near Heino.
From 1991 to 2005, the museum used the Bergkerk in Deventer for temporary exhibitions before moving its secondary location to the former Palace of Justice in Zwolle in 2005.
The Zwolle building, originally constructed between 1838 and 1841 in neoclassical style, underwent several renovations, including a notable rooftop extension completed in 2013.
The manor at Heino, dating back to the 14th century, was restored and opened to the public in 2004, including its extensive sculpture garden.
