Los Guatuzos Wildlife Refuge spans over 437.5 square kilometers in southern Nicaragua, situated south of Lake Nicaragua and west of the San Juan River. This protected area is characterized by tropical wetlands and dense rainforest, making it the only internationally registered tropical wetland in Nicaragua. It is recognized by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve and is listed under the Ramsar Convention for wetlands of international importance.
