The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque, stands as the state mosque of Selangor, Malaysia, and is the largest mosque in the country as well as the second largest in Southeast Asia by capacity. Located in Shah Alam, it features a magnificent blue and silver dome measuring 51.2 meters in diameter and soaring 106.7 meters above ground, one of the largest religious domes worldwide. The mosque's four minarets, each reaching 142.3 meters, are among the tallest globally and form the world's tallest group of minarets. Completed in 1988 after six years of construction, the mosque was commissioned by Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz when Shah Alam was declared Selangor's new capital in 1974. Architecturally, it combines Malay and modernist styles, with intricate Arabic calligraphy by Egyptian calligrapher Sheikh Abdel Moneim Mohamed Ali El Sharkawi adorning the dome's interior. The mosque's interior is bathed in a serene blue light filtered through stained glass windows, enhancing its tranquil ambiance. The main prayer hall spans two levels, accommodating up to 12,600 worshippers, with a dedicated upper gallery for female worshippers. The mosque complex includes administrative offices, a library, and lecture rooms. Overlooking the mosque is the Garden of Islamic Arts, a 14-hectare park featuring galleries with Islamic calligraphy, sculptures, and paintings, occasionally hosting traditional performances. The mosque remains a significant cultural and spiritual landmark visible from parts of Kuala Lumpur on clear days.
