Histoire

1855

Istana Jahar was constructed starting in 1855 during the reign of Sultan Muhammad II as a royal residence for his grandson, Raja Bendahara Long Kundor.

1886

After Sultan Muhammad II's death in 1886, the palace's construction continued under Sultan Ahmad, and by 1889, Sultan Muhammad III made Istana Jahar his residence.

1911

The palace was officially named after a jahar tree in 1911 following renovations by Sultan Muhammad IV.

It remained a royal residence until the early 20th century when later sultans established their own palaces.

Eventually, Istana Jahar was converted into the Museum of Royal Traditions and Customs, preserving its historical and architectural legacy.
