Langkawi Sky Bridge
Kedah
Langkawi Sky Bridge is a remarkable curved pedestrian cable-stayed bridge located on Pulau Langkawi in Malaysia. Completed in 2005, it stretches 125 meters across the peak of Gunung Mat Cincang at an elevation of 660 meters above sea level. The bridge’s unique curved design, created by architect Peter Wyss, enhances the viewing experience by providing shifting perspectives as visitors walk along its length. Suspended from a single 81.5-meter-high pylon, the bridge connects two hilltops and can hold up to 250 people at once. Its construction involved prefabricated segments airlifted by helicopters and assembled on site, a feat of engineering given the challenging terrain. Visitors typically reach the bridge via the Langkawi Cable Car to the Top Station, followed by the SkyGlide inclined lift down to the bridge. The bridge features steel railings and wire mesh for safety, and a wider curved central section includes glass walkway panels allowing visitors to look down into the valley below. After a closure for maintenance and upgrades between 2012 and 2015, it reopened fully with improved structural strength and visitor facilities. The Langkawi Sky Bridge is not only an architectural marvel but also a popular attraction featured in notable films, offering stunning views of the Machincang mountain range, Andaman Sea, and surrounding islands.

Astuce: The best time to visit Langkawi Sky Bridge is during clear weather, preferably in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and enjoy cooler temperatures. Tickets for the SkyGlide inclined lift, which connects the cable car top station to the bridge, are sold separately and can be purchased onsite. Visitors seeking a more adventurous approach can opt to hike the steep mountain trail from the top station to the bridge, but it is less secure and more physically demanding. Discounts are typically available for Malaysian citizens with valid ID. It is advisable to book cable car tickets in advance during peak tourist seasons to avoid long waits.

Histoire
Construction of the Langkawi Sky Bridge began in August 2003 and was completed in August 2004, with the bridge opening to the public in February 2005.
Designed by Peter Wyss, the bridge was built using prefabricated segments lifted by helicopters and assembled on the mountain, an engineering challenge due to the terrain.
In July 2012, the bridge was closed for extensive maintenance, structural strengthening, and upgrades, including the addition of glass walkway sections and the SkyGlide inclined lift.
After several delays, the bridge partially reopened in February 2015 and fully reopened later that year with enhanced visitor access and safety features.
