Vinica Fortress, locally known as Viničko Kale, is a fortified settlement dating from late ancient times located on a hill overlooking the modern town of Vinica in North Macedonia. The fortress stands as a significant archaeological site reflecting the region's history from the 6th to the 12th century AD, with earlier Neolithic habitation in the area. Originally a Byzantine fortification, it served as a center for wine production, which influenced the town's name derived from the word "vine." The fortress played a strategic role throughout the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, witnessing various cultural and administrative changes. Excavations on the hill have uncovered terracotta icons and remnants that highlight its historical importance. Though once surrounded by vineyards, these were abandoned during archaeological excavations. Today, the fortress provides panoramic views of the Kočani Valley and the Bregalnica river basin, making it a notable cultural and historical landmark in the Eastern Statistical Region of North Macedonia.
