Histoire

2008

The construction of Žalgiris Arena began in September 2008, designed by architect Eugenijus Miliūnas and built by Lithuanian company Vėtrūna.

2004

Initially, plans to build a new sports complex in Kalniečiai Park were abandoned due to funding issues, leading to the selection of Nemunas Island as the site in 2004.

2010

The arena was officially named Žalgiris Arena by Kaunas City Municipality in March 2010 and opened on August 18, 2011.

2022

Over the years, the arena has undergone expansions including the addition of a 50-meter Olympic swimming pool in 2022 and technological upgrades such as the installation of Lithuania's largest LED screen in 2016 and the renovation of the video cube in 2024.

2011

It has hosted major events like the 2011 European Basketball Championship final and the 2023 EuroLeague Final Four.
