Seoul Forest, located in Seongdong District, is one of Seoul's largest and most diverse parks, opened in June 2005. Spanning approximately 1,200 hectares, it features over 420,000 trees and houses more than 100 animal species, making it a vital ecological and recreational space in the city. The park comprises several distinct areas, including the Cultural Art Park, Hangang River Waterside Park, Experiential Learning Park, Marsh Plants Garden, and the Ecological Forest. It also boasts specialized attractions such as an insect botanical garden and a butterfly garden, serving as educational and conservation sites. Historically, the area was once a royal hunting forest and later transformed into Seoul's first water purification plant in 1908. Over time, it evolved through various uses, including an amusement park and racecourse, before its current incarnation as an ecological urban forest. Seoul Forest provides a natural retreat for residents and visitors alike, combining wetland ecosystems, diverse flora like over 40 species of roses, and interactive nature programs. Accessible via Seoul Subway Line 2 and the Bundang Line, it is open year-round with free admission, inviting exploration of its rich biodiversity and cultural offerings.
