Nervi Parks is a renowned botanical and cultural complex located in the Nervi district of Genoa, Italy. Spanning approximately 9 hectares, the parks were formed by the gardens of several historic villas, including Villa Gropallo, Villa Saluzzo Serra, Villa Grimaldi Fassio, and Villa Luxoro. The area features a rich variety of over 100 plant species, including Mediterranean and exotic trees such as Araucaria bidwillii, Cinnamonum camphora, Jubaea chilensis, Pinus halepensis, and Yucca elephantipes, some of which are recognized as monumental trees. The parks boast English-style lawns, elegant palm trees, ornamental fountains, and a celebrated rose garden with more than 200 varieties. The seaside promenade, particularly the Anita Garibaldi walkway, offers spectacular views over the Gulf of Paradiso and the Portofino promontory, making it one of Italy's most beautiful coastal walks. The parks also host important cultural events, including the International Festival of Ballet and Music and Euroflora, an international flower exhibition. Within the parks, several historic villas have been repurposed as museums showcasing modern and contemporary art collections, such as the Genoa Gallery of Modern Arts and the Raccolte Frugone. The parks' temperate climate and scenic landscapes make them a favored destination year-round, inviting visitors to enjoy both nature and culture in a refined setting.

Histoire

The gardens that now form Nervi Parks originated as private estates belonging to aristocratic families such as the Gropallo, Saluzzo Serra, Grimaldi Fassio, and Luxoro families.

Villa Saluzzo Serra dates back to the 16th century and was transformed into a landscaped park in the early 19th century by Gerolamo Serra.

1928

The villas and their gardens were gradually acquired by the city of Genoa in the 20th century, with Villa Saluzzo Serra becoming the home of the Genoa Gallery of Modern Arts in 1928.

2018

The parks have since evolved into a public botanical and cultural complex, hosting major events like Euroflora starting in 2018 and the International Festival of Ballet and Music.

Conservation efforts have also been undertaken to preserve the unique botanical species and historic structures within the parks.
