Histoire
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center project began with donation plans in 1998.
Initially conceived as separate buildings for the National Library and National Opera, the plan merged into a single complex in 2006.
Italian architect Renzo Piano was selected in 2008, and construction started in 2012 on the site of the former Hippodrome race track.
The $861 million project was completed in 2016 and formally donated to the Greek state in 2017.
Since then, it has become a cultural hub and was nominated for the RIBA International Prize in 2018.
