Imereti
Kutaisi State Historical Museum, also known as the Niko Berdzenishvili Kutaisi State History Museum, is one of Georgia's foremost scientific and research institutions. Established in 1921–22 within the former National Bank of Georgia building, it houses an extensive collection of more than 200,000 artifacts. These exhibits represent Georgia's rich archaeological, numismatic, paleographical, ethnographical, and spiritual heritage, with items dating from the 9th century BC through the Late Medieval period. The museum's displays include Georgian, Byzantine, and Roman historical objects such as manuscripts, jewelry, pottery, leather goods, textiles, and woodwork. A highlight is the Gold Treasury hall, featuring numerous religious gold pieces originally from the Bagrati Cathedral, which was closed during the Soviet era. The museum's collections are arranged across ten rooms on two floors, complemented by a library holding over 40,000 volumes, including rare manuscripts. Additionally, the museum publishes several newspapers and an annual magazine related to its collections. Restoration efforts began in 2007 to preserve and enhance the museum's facilities.
