Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, located in Glasgow's West End within Kelvingrove Park, is a major cultural institution managed by Glasgow Museums. Opened in 1901 for the Glasgow International Exhibition and fully accessible from 1902, it showcases a vast collection of natural history, Egyptian antiquities, design, architecture, medieval arms and armour, and Scottish history. Its art collections are among Europe's finest civic collections, featuring Scottish, European, African, Asian, and Oceanic art. The museum underwent a significant ÂŁ27 million refurbishment from 2003 to 2006, reorganizing its exhibits into two main themes: Life, representing natural and human history, and Expression, focusing on fine arts. Noteworthy exhibits include Salvador DalĂ's "Christ of St John of the Cross," the famous Sir Roger the Asian elephant, the Avant armour, and works by the Glasgow Boys and Scottish Colourists. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece in Spanish Baroque style, constructed from distinctive red and white sandstones, complemented by sculptural works by prominent artists. The Centre Hall features a grand concert pipe organ, originally commissioned for the 1901 exhibition, symbolizing the museum's cultural vitality.
