1888

Founded in 1888 by the Finnish Society of Pori, Satakunta Museum initially collected artifacts donated by locals, quickly amassing a significant collection.

It officially became known as Satakunta Museum in 1893 and transferred to city ownership in 1899.

Early museum spaces were limited until 1903, when it moved to the Iltama House.

The current museum building was designed by architect Olaf Küttner and opened in 1973 on a site that was formerly a park since the great fire of Pori in 1852.
