Histoire

1939

The Koskelan loisto beacon was constructed in 1939, replacing an earlier smaller light built in 1911 located roughly 920 meters southeast.

Designed in a Norwegian style, the tower served as a vital navigational aid for vessels entering Toppila harbor, featuring a sector light with red, white, and green signals.

Its light operated on acetylene gas and had a range of approximately 12.2 kilometers.

1996

The beacon was officially listed in the Finnish Maritime Administration's 1996 catalog of coastal lights.

2023

The light was switched off in the early 2000s, and the tower ceased official use as a maritime marker on June 20, 2023.

Due to land uplift, the tower now stands farther from the coast and is partially obscured by vegetation.
