The Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias, located in Oviedo, Spain, is housed in three historic buildings: the Palacio de Velarde, the House of Oviedo-Portal, and the House of Solís-Carbajal. Established by Royal Decree in 1844 and inaugurated in 1980, the museum preserves a vast collection of nearly 15,000 works, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, and decorative arts. Its collection emphasizes Spanish artists, especially from Asturias, alongside notable Italian and Flemish painters. Key highlights include works by Francisco de Goya, El Greco, Pablo Picasso, and Rubens, as well as significant medieval altarpieces and baroque paintings. The museum underwent a major expansion completed in 2015, doubling its exhibition space and adding a prominent façade facing Oviedo's Cathedral Square. Visitors can enjoy both permanent and temporary exhibitions, cultural workshops, and film cycles, all accessible with free admission. The museum's blend of historical architecture and diverse art collections makes it a cultural cornerstone in the Principality of Asturias.

Histoire
The Museum of Fine Arts of Asturias was conceived by Royal Decree in 1844 but was officially inaugurated on May 19, 1980, based on the art collection of the former province of Oviedo.
The initial collection was rescued and cataloged by Emilio Marcos Vallaure and his associate Toto Castañón, who recovered many lost or forgotten works.
In 2015, after eight years of renovations interrupted by archaeological discoveries, the museum doubled its size through an extension designed by architect Francisco Beloqui Mangado, gaining a new façade facing the Cathedral Square.
The museum is currently funded by the Asturias regional government and the City of Oviedo.
