Histoire
Ilon's Wonderland originated from Ilon Wikland's 2004 decision to donate her original book illustrations to the Estonian state.
The Läänemaa Museum in Haapsalu provided a building at Kooli 5 to exhibit these works, leading to the opening of Ilon Wikland's gallery in 2006.
Inspired by Wikland's childhood memories of Haapsalu's castle ruins and wooden architecture, the thematic center was established and opened in 2009.
In 2014, the center underwent a full renovation led by curator Tea Tammelaane, expanding the exhibition space and adding more of Wikland's works, earning the Museum Rat award for best permanent exhibition that year.
