Histoire
The Knuthenborg estate dates back to the medieval manor of Årsmarke, becoming Denmark's largest private estate and part of the Knuthenborg county in 1714.
In 1867, Eggert Christoffer Knuth constructed a 7.4 km stone wall and engaged English landscape architect Edward Milner to design a botanical park with rare plants and rhododendrons.
The park was protected by preservation order in 1926.
A zoological garden was established in 1950 near Swan Lake, initially with deer.
Exotic animals were introduced in 1969 by Count Adam W.
Knuth, starting the safari park with zebras, antelopes, and ostriches.
Over subsequent decades, the animal collection and park facilities expanded significantly, including the addition of elephants and tigers in recent years.
