Štramberk Trúba Tower (Trúba)
Moravskoslezský kraj
Trúba is the best-known landmark of Štramberk: a cylindrical tower that survives as a remnant of the former Štramberk Castle. Set above the town’s steep, hillside streets in the Moravian-Silesian Foothills, it functions today as an observation tower. The origin and age of the original castle are unknown, but the settlement beneath it is documented as early as 1211. Štramberk later developed into a town founded in 1359 by John Henry, Margrave of Moravia, and its historic centre remains well preserved as an urban monument reservation. The castle suffered heavily during the Thirty Years’ War, when the town was attacked and devastated several times. In 1783, the front part of the castle collapsed and its masonry was dismantled, leaving Trúba as the defining survivor. The tower was repaired in 1903–1904 and adapted specifically for viewing, turning a medieval defensive element into a visitor attraction. From the heights around Trúba, you can also appreciate how the town’s partially preserved fortifications still trace the original limits of Štramberk.

Astuce: Combine Trúba with a walk through Štramberk’s protected historic centre, known for its timbered houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Because the town is spread across steep slopes, wear shoes with good grip and allow extra time for uphill sections. If you are arriving by public transport, Štramberk lies on the Studénka–Veřovice railway line, which can be a convenient way to reach the town without a car. Consider pairing the visit with nearby protected sites mentioned for the area, such as the freely accessible Šipka Cave National Nature Monument.
