Lemberk Castle (Czech: zámek Lemberk) is a hilltop castle in the village of Lvová, part of Jablonné v Podještědí in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. Set in the heart of the Lusatian Mountains, it sits about 18 km west of Liberec. The site began as a medieval castle built in the 1240s by Havel of Markvartice, husband of Saint Zdislava (Zdislava of Lemberk). Over the centuries it evolved from a fortified stronghold into a noble residence, including a major Renaissance rebuilding in the second half of the 16th century. Its present-day appearance largely dates to the second half of the 17th century, when it was owned by the lords of Breda. From the original medieval structure, only the cylindrical tower remains standing today. The castle later belonged to the Clam-Gallas family, the last noble owners, until 1945. Now state owned, Lemberk Castle is open to visitors via guided tours. In 2014, its interiors underwent reconstruction, helping preserve the experience of visiting the historic rooms.

Cylindrical medieval tower1240s (original castle period)

Look for the cylindrical tower, the key surviving element of the original 13th-century castle. It is the most direct architectural link to Lemberk’s medieval beginnings before later residential rebuildings reshaped the complex.
