Sychrov Castle stands as a unique example of romantic Neo-Gothic architecture from the second half of the 19th century. Originally a small Baroque estate, it was transformed into a magnificent residence by the Rohan family, French aristocrats who fled the French Revolution and settled in the Austrian Empire. The castle's current appearance is the result of an extensive reconstruction carried out between 1847 and 1862 under the direction of architect Bernard Grueber. All the renovation works were facilitated by highly skilled domestic artists and craftsmen. The interiors are particularly renowned for their exquisite wood carvings, meticulously crafted by Petr Bušek over a period of 38 years. The estate is surrounded by a sprawling 23-hectare English-style park, which features rich botanical collections. This meticulously landscaped area achieved a rare harmony between the castle's exterior, interior, and the surrounding nature. Today, the castle is a beautifully restored national cultural heritage site that offers visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of 19th-century nobility. Its romantic charm and well-preserved state have also made it a highly sought-after filming location for both domestic and international movies.
