The Kuks Hospital and Baroque Pharmacy is a monumental architectural complex situated in the picturesque valley of the Elbe River. Originally envisioned as a grand spa resort by Count Franz Anton von Sporck in the late 17th century, the site has transformed into one of the most significant Baroque monuments in the Czech Republic. Although the original chateau and spa infrastructure were lost to time and natural disasters, the majestic hospital building, the Church of the Holy Trinity, and the historic pharmacy have been beautifully preserved. The complex is renowned worldwide for its extraordinary sculptural decoration created by the masterful Baroque sculptor Matthias Braun. Since 1946, the hospital has served as a museum dedicated to Baroque art and the history of Czech pharmacy. Visitors can explore the rich historic furnishings and immerse themselves in the artistic and medical heritage of the 18th century. The entire village and the Baroque complex are protected as a national monument reservation, offering a unique glimpse into the opulence of the era.

Histoire
The history of Kuks began in 1684 when Count Franz Anton von Sporck acquired the estate and discovered mineral springs on the slopes of the Elbe River.
Between 1692 and 1696, he established a spa that quickly gained fame after its healing waters were validated by university experts.
The grand hospital and the Church of the Holy Trinity were constructed between 1707 and 1715.
Following Sporck's death in 1738, his heirs lost interest, and a devastating flood in 1740 destroyed the spa's infrastructure, turning Kuks into a quiet village.
The original chateau tragically burnt down in 1896 and was demolished in 1901, leaving the hospital complex as the primary surviving monument.
