History

The CNAD is housed in a colonial building constructed at the end of the 19th century for Senator Vera Cruz.

1917

Between 1917 and 1921, the building served as the Liceu Nacional, a national high school.

1950

In 1950, it became home to Rádio Barlavento until the radio station moved out in 1979.

Subsequently, the building was repurposed into the current cultural center, dedicated to showcasing Cape Verdean art and design.

2018

Renovations and an expansion project were announced in 2018 to modernize and enlarge the museum facilities.
